Parisian life
Spent 10 days in Paris with the wife. We admired this ancient city and its numerous locations that influenced modern Western civilization. From the Revolution Square (now called Place de la Concorde), to Versailles. The city is historic and filled with stories. The raw and sheer humanity of it is a bit humbling coming from Vancouver. Not used to seeing this many people, especially at the touristy locations like the Louvre and Versailles, it’s almost unbearable.
One can get swept away with all the statues and artworks. 35,000+ pieces at the louvre, and even if you spend 30 seconds on each piece, it would take you a full 4 years to view them all. It’s not possible. Eventually, your brain shuts down, and it all starts to blend together and you lose interest.
You can spend years wandering through the city. Peeking into the little winding streets and cafes, reading about what historic event took place there, you’ll never get through it all. After about a week, I told my wife I needed a pallet cleanser and wanted to see the countryside.
Luckily, the Parisian Zoo is magnificent, and we saw a lot of beautiful animals that I’ve never seen before. White Rhino, meerkat, jaguar, etc. I don't necessarily support animals in zoos as I feel it’s inhumane to keep them locked up, but I did need this break from all the hustle and bustle of the city.
I brought the 100-400mm lens thinking I’d be using it in the city, but spent majority of the trip wishing i brought the 10-18mm Ultra wide. The zoom lens was only good at the zoo.
After a solid 10 days of exploring Im glad to be home and in the comfort of our quiet, sleepy, Richmond.
